Connection Section Between Yangsan Line and Line 2 Yangsan Station Completed
79% Progress Rate... Follow-up Work Proceeding Smoothly
Busan Transportation Corporation announced on the 5th that, as of August, the overall construction progress of the Yangsan Line, which connects Nopo in Busan and Bukjeong in Yangsan, has reached 78.7%. The project is proceeding smoothly with the goal of completion in 2025 and opening in 2026.
At the end of July, the corporation safely completed the installation of the entire bridge section (5.16 km) of the Yangsan Line by placing the bridge connecting the Yangsan Line and Line 2’s Yangsan Station.
With this, the civil engineering phase of the Yangsan Line construction is in its final stage, and architectural work is being carried out at each station on the completed structures.
Track construction, which is essential for train operation, is also progressing smoothly, including the installation of rails inside the Yangsan Line. There are also plans to enable transfers between the existing Line 1 and Line 2 and the Yangsan Line at Nopo Station on Line 1 and Station 105 on the Yangsan Line.
The 18 light rail trains to be deployed on the Yangsan Line will undergo integrated testing next year, including ground and onboard tests and unmanned operation performance tests. Comprehensive railway test runs will then begin, with full-scale preparations underway for the 2026 opening.
The corporation explained that, although there were numerous challenges in each construction section of the Yangsan Line project, they were successfully overcome thanks to the technology and know-how accumulated over 40 years of building the Busan urban railway.
The most challenging section was the tunnel under the Yangsan Service Area of the Gyeongbu Expressway. The Yangsan Service Area tunnel spans a total of 744 meters and is located approximately 25 meters from an above-ground LPG filling station and gas station. Construction was carried out over nine months following more than two years of consultation with Korea Expressway Corporation.
The Yangsan Line project, which began in March 2018, is an 11.43 km route connecting Nopo Station on Line 1, passing through Sasong New Town in Dong-myeon, Yangsan City, to Yangsan Station on Line 2. The project involves a total investment of 783.3 billion won and the construction of seven stations.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the residents who have endured inconveniences caused by the construction," and promised, "We will carry out the Yangsan Line construction safely and swiftly to provide metropolitan public transportation services connecting Busan and Gyeongnam to citizens as soon as possible."
Busan Transportation Corporation has completed the installation of the Yangsan Line bridge and is accelerating efforts to open it by 2026.
