Weekend Theater Attendance Reaches 1,965,730 Visitors
The comedy film "Pilot," starring actor Jo Jung-suk, surpassed 1 million viewers during its opening weekend and topped the box office.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 5th, "Pilot" (directed by Kim Han-gyeol) attracted 1,095,419 viewers over the three days from the 2nd to the 4th, securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 54.3%. Since its release on the 31st of last month, the cumulative audience has reached 1,744,472. The film tells the story of Han Jung-woo (played by Jo Jung-suk), a star pilot who was fired after causing a scandal at an airline, who then assumes his younger sister's identity to get re-employed and become a pilot again.
Aside from the comedy "Pilot," foreign films and animations showed strong performance. The Marvel movie "Deadpool and Wolverine" attracted 261,896 viewers over the weekend, ranking second. Since its release on the 24th of last month, a total of 1,669,444 people have watched the film. The animated movie "Despicable Me 4" drew 256,467 viewers, placing third. Its cumulative audience is 1,170,788. Fourth place "Inside Out 2" attracted 118,953 viewers, continuing its long-running success. The total number of viewers who visited theaters over the weekend was 1,965,730.
Korean films did not perform well this summer either, with no notable hits. However, "Pilot" showed promising early results. As of 9:30 AM on the day, the real-time reservation rate ranked "Pilot" first at 18.8%. The upcoming animation "Love's Hatchuping" (13.8%) and "Revolver" (10.9%), which will be released on the 7th, follow behind.
