Convenience Stores Eyeing Daiso... GS25 Launches Half-Price Cosmetics

Collaboration with a Famous Skincare Brand

GS Retail's convenience store GS25 is expanding its basic cosmetics product line focusing on cost-effectiveness and small quantities.


According to the industry on the 5th, GS25 introduced four new products nationwide on the 2nd, developed in collaboration with the skincare specialist brand Dewytree: ▲Dewytree Skin Derma Aqua Mask Pack ▲Dewytree Aqua Boosting Toner (150㎖) ▲Dewytree Aqua Collagen Multi Cream (80㎖) ▲Dewytree Derma Ceramide Oil Serum (30㎖). Although these products are available on the market, their prices are up to 50% cheaper.

GS25 also launched two Mediheal products: Water Mild Moisture Pads (2 pieces) and Tea Tree Trouble Pads (2 pieces). These are products configured in small quantities for convenience stores from existing large-size products. GS25 plans to introduce an all-in-one skincare product for male customers in their 20s and 30s next month in collaboration with a skincare brand. They lowered prices by only changing the container type of popular products from skincare brands. Travel-sized skincare products will also be developed.


GS25 explained that they strengthened basic cosmetics by noting that half of GS25 cosmetics buyers over the past three years were in their teens and twenties, indicating a younger purchasing age. They also analyzed that the cosmetics sold are expanding from mainly lip moisturizers to basic cosmetics centered on mask packs, skin toners, and lotions. In fact, the year-on-year sales growth rate of GS25 basic cosmetics recorded double digits every year: 35.5% in 2022, 54.1% last year, and 65% from January to July this year.


A GS Retail official said, "We expect convenience stores to grow as a new cosmetics purchasing channel based on accessibility," adding, "We will continue to collaborate with specialized brands and expand product assortments to provide good quality cosmetics at reasonable prices."
