Empty contents and collect plastics together to dispose in designated transparent bags
Dongdaemun-gu promotes and manages waste reduction throughout the second half of this year
"It's okay if it's small. Please empty the contents and separate the plastic films before disposal."
Starting in 2026 in the Seoul metropolitan area, it will be prohibited to landfill household waste disposed of in volume-based bags without sorting or incineration.
In response, Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is proactively promoting the 'separation and disposal of waste plastic films.'
The aim is to reduce household waste in preparation for the ban on direct landfilling in 2026.
Recently, the district designated areas with large amounts of plastic film waste?such as around subway stations, markets, and busy commercial districts?as focused management zones and distributed 'exclusive collection bags for waste plastic films' to businesses within these zones.
An official from the Dongdaemun-gu Cleaning Administration Department stated, "We plan to form inspection teams to strengthen promotion and management," adding, "We will strive to ensure that the 'separation and disposal of waste plastic films' is established early through continuous promotion."
The district plans to intensively promote the separation and disposal of waste plastic films throughout the second half of this year.
There are additional efforts by the district to create a pleasant and sustainable city together with residents.
Recently, Dongdaemun-gu formed a citizen-wide carbon neutrality practice organization called 'Carbon Talks Dongdaemun.' The district is focusing on environmental policies by planting trees along the Jungnangcheon Stream with local companies and jointly conducting campaigns to reduce plastic bag usage with market merchant associations.
