2nd and 3rd Instances Since KBO Heatwave Regulation Enactment
Professional baseball games scheduled to be held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul and Munsu Stadium in Ulsan were canceled due to the heatwave. This is the second and third time since the KBO League established heatwave regulations in 2015.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced on the 4th at 5 p.m. that the Ulsan LG Twins vs. Lotte Giants game and the Jamsil Kiwoom Heroes vs. Doosan Bears game were canceled due to the heatwave. According to Article 27 of the KBO League regulations, games can be canceled if the daily maximum temperature is expected to remain above 35 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days.
Meanwhile, during the Kiwoom-Doosan game held at Jamsil on the 3rd, four spectators complained of heat-related illnesses and were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. On the day of the game, a heatwave warning was issued for the Seoul area, and the temperature at Jamsil Stadium rose to 48 degrees Celsius due to radiant heat. However, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) proceeded with games at four stadiums, exposing spectators directly to the heatwave.
