Department Store Industry, Pre-Orders for Chuseok Gift Sets Begin on the 9th

Increase Reservation Volume and Expand Discount Rates

The department store industry will begin accepting reservations for Chuseok gift sets from the 9th, about a month before the holiday.


According to the three major department stores on the 4th, Shinsegae Department Store will hold reservation sales from the 9th to the 29th, Lotte Department Store from the 9th to the 25th, and Hyundai Department Store from the 9th to the 16th.

Shinsegae Department Store has prepared about 50,000 sets for reservation sales. The products include over 250 items such as agricultural products, livestock, seafood, and wine. The discount rates by category are 5-10% for Korean beef, 20% for dried yellow corvina, 10% for fresh fruits, 60% for wine, and 50% for health supplements.


Fruit gift sets will be sold at prices similar to last year through the expansion of Select Farm, a designated production area by Shinsegae Department Store. For livestock gift sets, reflecting customer demand for premium products, Shinsegae Department Store’s own brand 'Shinsegae Amso Hanwoo' will be expanded from the existing grade 1 to grade 1+.


SSG.com (Ssg.com) Shinsegae Department Store Mall will conduct pre-reservations for Chuseok gift sets until the 6th of next month. The number of online-exclusive products has increased by 20% compared to last Chuseok. Popular dessert gift sets from Sweet Park at Shinsegae Gangnam Store will also be newly introduced.


Choi Won-jun, Executive Director in charge of food at Shinsegae Department Store, said, "We increased the quantity and strengthened the variety of online-exclusive products compared to last year to meet the demand for purchasing gift sets at reasonable prices."

Lotte Department Store is offering over 220 items at discounts of up to 50% off the regular price. The quantities of high-demand livestock and seafood gift sets have increased by about 20% compared to last year, and fresh fruits and traditional liquors by about 15% or more.


Livestock and seafood gift sets range from premium to practical sets. There is the 'Hanwoo Special Steak' set priced in the 400,000 KRW range, consisting of four cuts of 1+ grade Korean beef, and the 'Wando Live Abalone Happiness' set in the 100,000 KRW range. Fruit gift sets have diversified production areas and varieties, and reflecting increased interest in health management, a variety of products such as red ginseng, vitamins, and fermented foods are also prepared.


Lotte Department Store Mall will also hold a pre-event for department store Chuseok gift sets from the 9th to the 25th. About 15,000 popular items such as Korean beef, fresh fruits, and wine will be sold at discounts up to 60%, with additional discount coupons provided. Yoon Woo-wook, Head of Food Division at Lotte Department Store, said, "We planned a variety of products to meet customer demands, from premium gift sets to practical products."

Hyundai Department Store will offer over 220 items at discounts of up to 30%. The quantity has increased by about 15% compared to last year. Representative products include the 'Hyundai Special Hanwoo Grilled Bamboo (죽) Set' consisting of pork ribs, bulgogi, and soup cuts, and the 'Jeju Hairtail Plum (매) Set' consisting of 2.4 kg of Jeju hairtail fish.


The official online mall The Hyundai.com and Hyundai Food Hall ToHome will also offer reservation sales for gift sets and provide discount coupons. Jang Woo-seok, Executive Director of the Food Business Division at Hyundai Department Store, said, "Due to the earlier Chuseok holiday this year and the hot weather during gift deliveries, we plan to strengthen the refrigerated delivery system."
