Korean shooting has secured its 5th medal (3 golds, 2 silvers) in this competition following the women's air pistol gold by Oh Ye-jin (IBK Industrial Bank), women's air rifle gold by Ban Hyo-jin (Daegu Physical Education High School), women's air pistol silver by Kim Ye-ji (Imsil County Office), and mixed air rifle silver by Park Ha-jun (KT) and Geum Ji-hyun (Gyeonggi Provincial Office).

This is the first time in 12 years since the 2012 London Olympics, where Korean shooting won 5 medals (3 golds, 2 silvers), that Korea has earned 5 medals at the Olympics.

The 25m pistol event is a women's only event at the Olympics. The preliminary round consists of slow fire and rapid fire stages, with scores combined to determine the top 8 shooters who advance to the final.

Yang Ji-in, who ranked 6th with a combined score of 586 in slow and rapid fire in the preliminaries the day before, competed in the rapid fire-only final. The 25m pistol final is conducted solely with rapid fire. Shots scoring 10.2 points or higher earn 1 point, while shots below 10.2 are considered misses and scored as zero.

The 8 finalists each shoot 5 shots per series for a total of 3 series (15 shots), after which the lowest scorer is eliminated after each subsequent series.

Yang hit 3 shots in the first series, then hit all 10 shots in both the second and third series, taking the lead. In the fourth series, she missed the first shot by failing to fire within 3 seconds but hit the remaining 4 shots on target.

She missed 2 shots in the fifth series but hit 4 shots in the sixth. After completing the seventh series, Yang had 27 points, while Barker and Camille Jedrzejewski (France) were close behind with 26 points each. Going into the last two series, Yang led with 30 points, Jedrzejewski had 29, and Mayor had 28, all in medal contention.

In the ninth series, which decided the bronze medal, Yang missed 2 shots while Jedrzejewski hit 4, bringing both to 33 points and advancing to the final series to determine the gold medal. Mayor secured the bronze with 31 points.

In the tenth series, both Yang and Jedrzejewski hit 4 shots, tying at 37 points and forcing a shoot-off to decide the gold medal. In the shoot-off, Yang calmly hit all 4 shots to claim the gold medal, while Jedrzejewski managed only 1 shot, earning the silver medal.
