Ministry of the Interior and Safety Provides 12.7 Billion KRW in Emergency Relief Funds to Areas Affected by Heavy Rainfall

Jeonbuk 6.8 Billion, Chungnam 4.4 Billion, Daejeon 700 Million, etc.
For Houses and Businesses Suffering Property Damage

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will prioritize providing 12.7 billion KRW in disaster relief funds to areas affected by last month's heavy rainfall.


According to the Ministry on the 2nd, disaster relief funds will be distributed to the affected areas as soon as the recovery plans are finalized.


Among the regions severely damaged by the heavy rain from the 8th to the 10th of last month, 12.7 billion KRW of the national government’s share of disaster relief funds will be prioritized for private property damages, including houses and small business owners, whose damage scale has already been confirmed. By region, 6.8 billion KRW will go to Jeonbuk, 4.4 billion KRW to Chungnam, 700 million KRW to Daejeon, 500 million KRW to Chungbuk, and 300 million KRW to Gyeongbuk.

This disaster relief fund will be provided to citizens who suffered property damage (houses and small business establishments) to private facilities due to heavy rain, in accordance with the "Regulations on the Standards for Burdening Relief and Recovery Costs for Natural Disasters."


Previously, to facilitate rapid recovery in the affected areas, the government declared special disaster zones for local governments that met the declaration criteria based on the results of a central joint investigation. On the 18th, five local governments including Yeongdong in Chungbuk, Nonsan and Seocheon in Chungnam, and Wanju in Jeonbuk were designated, and on the 22nd, eleven local governments including Okcheon in Chungbuk, Geumsan and Buyeo in Chungnam, Iksan in Jeonbuk, and Andong in Gyeongbuk were designated.


Minister Lee Sang-min stated, "We urge the relevant local governments to promptly distribute disaster relief funds so that citizens affected by the disaster can return to their daily lives as soon as possible," adding, "Once the additional damage investigation is completed, we will finalize the recovery plans and proceed with support for the affected areas without delay."
