"Not a Personal Relationship" Regarding Kim Sang-hoon's Nomination as Policy Committee Chair
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 2nd regarding the resignation of former Policy Committee Chairman Jeong Jeon-sik, "It was a decision that could not be helped in order to bring about change and show change."
After having lunch with the leadership at the time, including former Emergency Committee Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo, at a location in Yeouido in the afternoon, Han told reporters, "Former Chairman Jeong possesses both character and ability, and is someone I want to do politics with," but added this comment. He also said, "I expressed my deep gratitude for his decisive action. We share the common goal of doing good politics."
Earlier that day, Han nominated Kim Sang-hoon, a four-term senior lawmaker, as the new Policy Committee Chairman. Regarding the background of Kim’s nomination, he said, "I also learned this from former Emergency Committee Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo, but I do not consider personal relationships. Kim and I are not personally close nor have we shared friendship opportunities, and he did not campaign for me in the last party convention," adding, "He is highly outstanding in policy, stable, and I received many recommendations that he is one of the top figures in policy."

When asked by a reporter whether Chief Presidential Secretary Jeong Jin-seok’s opinion to retain former Chairman Jeong was an interference in party affairs, Han replied, "Our party can express various opinions to better serve the people and to follow the orders of the people and party members to establish a system that brings about change."
Meanwhile, former Chairman Hwang told reporters after lunch that he said to Han, "Since we are the ruling party, let’s make sure the Yoon Seok-yeol government succeeds, conservatism must be competent and maintain dignity." Han responded, "Former Chairman Hwang has been in party life for 29 years. I have been in politics for seven months, and I intend to continue to serve him and learn well. He has taught me a great deal."
The lunch, arranged at Han’s suggestion, was attended by former Emergency Committee members Eom Tae-young, Yoo Sang-beom, Jeon Ju-hye, and party officials appointed during the Emergency Committee period. Former Chairman Jeong did not attend, and Floor Leader Chu Kyung-ho and Deputy Floor Leader Bae Jun-young left after about 30 minutes due to scheduling reasons.
