A man in his 50s who threatened others with a weapon at a gosiwon in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was sentenced to one year in prison.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, the Criminal Division 4 of the Seoul Western District Court (Judge Hong Daseon) sentenced A (58) to one year in prison on the 24th of last month for charges of special intimidation and property damage.
In May, A opened the door of B's room, shouted insults saying "I will kill you," and brought a weapon from the kitchen. He also threw an LED TV and a fan provided in the gosiwon by hand and kicked the office door, causing damage worth about 300,000 won.
It was investigated that A committed the crime because B told the gosiwon manager that "he was being harassed." A had previously been sentenced to two years in prison and fined 500,000 won in 2021 for extortion and other charges.
The court explained the sentencing by saying, "The crime was committed during the recidivism period for similar offenses and had considerable risk as it could have led to human casualties," but also considered "the defendant's admission and remorse, as well as the defendant's age and health condition."
