President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to hold a commissioning ceremony for Lee Jin-sook, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the afternoon of the 1st, the presidential office announced.

President Yoon appointed Chairperson Lee and Standing Commissioner Kim Tae-gyu the day before, but Chairperson Lee went straight to the Korea Communications Commission office at the Government Complex Gwacheon immediately after the appointment, skipping the commissioning ceremony.

With the appointments of Chairperson Lee and Commissioner Kim, the Korea Communications Commission met the minimum quorum of two members required for resolution and held a plenary meeting on the afternoon of the appointment day, approving the recommendation and appointment plans for directors of public broadcasters such as KBS and MBC.

The opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea, opposed this and reported an impeachment motion against Chairperson Lee to the National Assembly plenary session on the same day. The opposition plans to pass the impeachment motion on the 2nd.

As President Yoon holds the commissioning ceremony on the day the opposition reported the impeachment motion against Chairperson Lee, it is expected that the conflict between the ruling and opposition parties will intensify further.
