Uiryeong County Mobilizes All Efforts to Prevent Heat Wave Damage Among Vulnerable Groups

Eup and Myeon Cooperation ... 'Act First, Report Later' Principle and Immediate Action

Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam is making every effort to prevent damage caused by the ongoing heatwave following the end of the monsoon season on the 1st. In particular, the county has decided to prioritize measures for the three most vulnerable groups to heatwaves: elderly farmers, seniors living alone, and outdoor construction workers.

Uiryeong County held a heatwave response status inspection meeting together with the heads of towns and townships, discussing the progress and future plans for each sector. Until September 30, a heatwave response task force team consisting of three groups and ten departments will be organized to comprehensively manage the heatwave situation.

Detailed measures include prompt identification of damage situations and operation of an emergency response system, heatwave countermeasures closely tailored to vulnerable groups (such as seniors living alone), and sector-specific management for agriculture, livestock, and construction.

On this day, the towns and townships agreed to cooperate in thoroughly preparing for and responding to the heatwave, and to establish a system that can respond quickly and effectively in the event of a disaster.

Additionally, the heads of towns and townships will frequently inspect sites where damage is expected, and if any abnormal signs are detected, they will take immediate action in accordance with the "act first, report later" principle.

The county is fully committed to damage prevention activities, including operating three water-spraying vehicles, running 90 cooling shelters, and promoting public action guidelines through SNS, village broadcasts, and electronic displays.

In particular, to ensure the safety of heatwave-vulnerable groups, the county has designated 83 disaster helpers, including social workers, life support workers, and visiting nurses, and is making every effort to achieve zero casualties by conducting daily visits and welfare calls during the heatwave advisory period.

County Governor Oh Taewan ordered, "Since the heatwave is lasting much longer than initially expected, please maintain the emergency work system during the intensive response period and mobilize all available personnel and resources for a comprehensive response."
