KOSPI and KOSDAQ Slightly Up... Electric Wire Stocks Strong

On the morning of the 1st, the KOSPI index recorded a firm tone with a reduced gain compared to the market opening. Wire-related stocks such as KBI Metal (20.31%), Daewon Electric Wire (9.91%), LS (5.36%), and Gaon Electric Wire (4.65%) showed strength as tensions in the Middle East escalated and copper prices rose.


As of 10:43 a.m., KOSPI was trading at 2,770.33, up 8.64 points (0.31%) from the previous day. The index opened at 2,787.27, up 16.58 points (0.60%), but the intraday gains narrowed. Currently, individual and foreign investors are net buying stocks worth 40.8 billion KRW and 32.4 billion KRW respectively, while institutions are selling stocks worth 88.1 billion KRW.

Among the top market capitalization stocks, Hyundai Motor (2.41%), LG Chem (1.96%), Kakao (1.79%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (1.66%), KB Financial Group (1.37%), Kia (1.16%), and Samsung SDI (1.10%) are on the rise. Conversely, Samsung Biologics (-3.30%), Samsung C&T (-1.87%), Samsung Life Insurance (-1.55%), and Samsung Electronics Preferred (-0.46%) are declining.


By sector, transportation equipment (2.45%), securities (1.72%), finance (0.98%), paper and wood (0.93%), and chemicals (0.93%) are rising. On the other hand, pharmaceuticals (-1.46%), insurance (-1.22%), telecommunications (-0.79%), construction (-0.53%), and distribution (-0.18%) sectors are falling.


On the 31st of last month (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average, centered on blue-chip stocks, closed at 40,842.79, up 99.46 points (0.24%) from the previous trading day on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The S&P 500, focused on large-cap stocks, rose 85.86 points (1.58%) to 5,522.3, and the Nasdaq, centered on tech stocks, ended trading at 17,599.4, up 451.98 points (2.64%).


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index recorded 810.08, up 6.93 points (0.86%) from the previous session. The index opened at 807.52, up 4.37 points (0.54%). Foreign and institutional investors were net buyers of stocks worth 4.5 billion KRW and 4.3 billion KRW respectively, while individuals sold stocks worth 2.9 billion KRW.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Nexon Games (24.79%), Silicon Two (4.63%), HLB (4.21%), Enchem (3.38%), Pearl Abyss (3.07%), and Ligachem Bio (2.49%) are rising. Conversely, EcoPro BM (-3.50%), Celltrion Pharm (-2.49%), Techwing (-1.83%), and HPSP (-1.23%) are declining.
