Election of Im Mankyoon as Chair of the Environment and Water Resources Committee of Seoul Metropolitan Council

At the 325th Seoul Metropolitan Council extraordinary session held on the afternoon of July 29, Councilor Im Man-gyun (The Democratic Party, Gwanak 3) was elected as the Chairperson of the Environment and Water Resources Committee for the second half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council through a plenary vote.


Additionally, Councilor Park Chun-seon (People Power Party, Gangdong 3) and Councilor Han Shin (The Democratic Party, Seongbuk 1) were appointed as vice-chairpersons of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Environment and Water Resources Committee.


Councilor Im Man-gyun (The Democratic Party, Gwanak 3), who was elected as chairperson that day, stated, “I am honored to carry out legislative activities together with the members of the Environment and Water Resources Committee in the second half, and I feel a heavy responsibility in taking on the important role of chairperson.” He concluded, “I will do my best to proactively respond to the climate crisis and realize a green city Seoul that coexists with nature.”


Vice-chairpersons Park Chun-seon (People Power Party, Gangdong 3) and Han Shin (The Democratic Party, Seongbuk 1), who were appointed by election, also expressed in their remarks that they will do their utmost to improve the quality of environmental fields closely related to the lives of 10 million Seoul citizens by communicating closely across party lines with committee members who possess rich insights.


The 11th second half Environment and Water Resources Committee consists of 11 members from both ruling and opposition parties. It oversees the Climate and Environment Headquarters, Garden City Bureau, Seoul Arisu Headquarters, Future Hangang Headquarters, Seoul Grand Park, and Seoul Energy Corporation. This committee is one of the key standing committees within the council, managing and supervising tasks in climate and environmental fields such as greenhouse gases, air quality, waste, and energy; urban park fields including urban parks, green spaces, garden creation, and leisure management; Hangang Park fields such as ecosystem conservation and use of waterfront spaces within parks; and water supply fields including clean tap water production, supply, and trust enhancement.
