Strengthening Safety and Health Measures Against Heat Waves, Providing Safety Equipment
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) conducted a safety inspection from the 24th to the 31st at four construction sites in the North Port redevelopment area, including the North Port Marina Phase 2 construction site, which involves extensive outdoor work, to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers.
This inspection was carried out to review safety and health management measures at the construction sites in preparation for the intense heat expected after the monsoon season, and to provide safety gear to prevent heat-related illnesses and safety accidents among workers.
To this end, the health conditions, work intensity, and use of cooling gear by workers exposed to outdoor operations were carefully checked. Compliance with the three basic rules for preventing heat-related illnesses (water, shade, rest) and the implementation of phased response measures according to the perceived temperature (such as providing 10-15 minutes of rest every hour during heat advisories and warnings) were also verified.
BPA stated that any deficiencies identified during this inspection would be corrected immediately, and records of issues would be managed to prevent recurrence of similar problems.
In addition to the on-site inspection, BPA provided 150 safety items such as arm sleeves and neck coolers to help workers lower their body temperature during outdoor work.
Jeon Seonghun, Director of the Port Regeneration Project Division at BPA, said, "We will do our best to create a safe working environment for workers during the heatwave period and provide safety gear to ensure an accident-free construction site."
