Ioniq 5 for UN Duties... Hyundai Motor Partners with the UN

Hyundai Motor Signs Partnership with UN World Food Programme

Hyundai Motor Company is partnering with the United Nations agency and the world's largest humanitarian aid organization, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), to promote sustainable development centered on eco-friendly vehicles.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 31st that it has signed a mobility sector partnership with WFP.

WFP is a food aid organization established to eradicate hunger in developing countries, aiming to create a world without hunger by 2030 and promote "Zero Hunger," where no one goes hungry.

Through this collaboration, Hyundai Motor plans to help transition the UN's mostly fossil fuel-operated official vehicles to eco-friendly mobility and support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) together with WFP.

First, Hyundai will provide the Ioniq 5, which can be used as transportation vehicles at WFP's major offices worldwide, and will also offer funds to build electric vehicle operation infrastructure in those countries.

In particular, the established funds will be used to carry out WFP's fossil fuel reduction program, EEP, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and plans to establish charging and renewable energy systems in areas where electric vehicles are deployed.

Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor Company, said, "This partnership demonstrates Hyundai Motor's leadership in electric vehicle technology and our firm commitment to making a positive impact on humanity. We will play an important role by providing the Ioniq 5 and supporting the necessary infrastructure to help solve the global food crisis."

Cindy McCain, Executive Director of WFP, also stated, "The cooperation with Hyundai Motor is an important leap toward WFP's Sustainable Development Goals. Through this collaboration, we will do our best to support those in need in a more improved and efficient way."
