The KOSPI index closed higher, supported by net buying from institutions and foreigners.


On the 31st, the KOSPI index closed at 2770.69, up 32.5 points (1.19%) from the previous day. The trading volume was 543.13 million shares, and the trading value was tentatively estimated at 11.839 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions and foreigners net bought 49.7 billion won and 151.2 billion won respectively, while individuals net sold 179.9 billion won. Program trading saw a net sell of 3.9 billion won in arbitrage trading and a net buy of 21 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.


More sectors rose than fell. The medical precision sector rose 4.1%, distribution 2.62%, electrical and electronics 2.22%, insurance 2.16%, non-metallic minerals 2.05%, transportation and warehousing 1.76%, electricity and gas 1.69%, food and beverages 1.57%, and finance 1.33%. On the other hand, pharmaceuticals fell 1.02%, steel and metals -0.98%, and transportation equipment -0.42%, closing weaker.


Top market capitalization stocks showed mixed movements. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rose 3.58% and 3.02% respectively, Samsung Biologics 0.11%, Kia 0.45%, Shinhan Financial Group 0.5%, NAVER 0.4%, and Samsung C&T 3.33% also increased. Conversely, LG Energy Solution fell 2.7%, Hyundai Motor -0.4%, Celltrion -2.15%, KB Financial Group -1.57%, and POSCO Holdings -2.23% recorded declines.


Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index closed slightly lower, pressured by net selling from foreigners. The KOSDAQ index closed at 803.15, down 0.63 points (0.08%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and individuals net bought 8.5 billion won and 53.8 billion won respectively, while foreigners net sold 63.2 billion won.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, more stocks declined. EcoPro BM and EcoPro fell 4.05% and 3.95% respectively, Alteogen -1.72%, Samchundang Pharm -0.05%, Celltrion Pharm -1.28%, Hugel -1.21%, Ligand Chem Bio -5.38%, Classys -6.5%, and Pearl Abyss -4.18% declined. On the other hand, HLB rose 3.99%, Enchem 4.8%, Lino Industrial 1.73%, and Rainbow Robotics 0.5% increased.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate closed at 1376.5 won, down 8.1 won from the previous day.
