Medical School Attraction Performance, SNS Relay, and Citizens' Passion

Dukingo Students Hold 'Analysis and Proposal on Jeonnam Medical School Location Selection' Meeting

Jeollanam-do Province is currently conducting a government-recommended university selection project for the establishment of a national medical school, while the citizens of Mokpo are pouring their passion day after day with a united spirit to attract a medical school.

The Mokpo University Medical School Attraction Social Network Service (SNS) challenge, launched by Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo, in April, has continued with participation from various sectors including Kim San, County Governor of Muan, Song Ha-cheol, President of Mokpo University, as well as citizens, social organizations, the business community, and academia, sailing smoothly amid high local interest.

Also, at the Mokpo-Shinan Integration Effect Analysis Residents’ Briefing Session held on the 23rd, more than 400 local residents, including Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo, and Jo Seong-o, Chairperson of the Mokpo City Council, heated up the venue with a unified performance wishing for the successful attraction of the Mokpo University Medical School.

Students also wholeheartedly supported the attraction of the Mokpo University National Medical School, a 34-year-long wish of the residents in the western region of Jeonnam.

Students from Deokin High School in Mokpo visited the Mokpo City Council’s Special Committee for Medical School Attraction Support on the 24th for a meeting, engaging in a heated discussion on the topic of analyzing and proposing the optimal conditions for selecting a medical school site in Jeonnam, related to attracting a medical school to the Jeonnam region.

The meeting was attended by a total of 12 people, including Park Yong-sik, Chairperson of the Mokpo City Council Special Committee for Medical School Attraction Support, Vice Chairperson Choi Hyun-joo, Park In-ji, Head of the Big Mokpo Planning Group, and Deokin High School students. Based on prior research, the students asked in-depth questions about the medical realities of the western and eastern regions, the impact of attracting a medical school on the local economy, and measures to prevent the outflow of medical personnel if a medical school is established.

A city official emphasized, “The students’ great interest and proactive attitude toward attracting the Mokpo University Medical School were impressive,” adding, “We will devote ourselves even more to the medical school attraction work for the future of our growing children.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province launched the ‘Jeollanam-do National Medical School and University Hospital Establishment Government Recommendation Project’ on the 8th, and plans to recommend a university for medical school establishment to the government by early November through a fair process in three stages.
