Dongseo University-Operated 'Haeundaegu Child and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center' Selected as Busan's Best Center for Two Consecutive Years

Haeundae-gu Center for Children's and Social Welfare Meal Service Management (Director: Professor Lee Hyunsook, Department of Food and Nutrition), operated by Dongseo University (President: Jang Jeguk), was selected as the top center for two consecutive years in the Busan Metropolitan City performance evaluation and recently received the Grand Prize at the '2024 Busan Children's and Social Welfare Meal Service Management Center Workshop' held at Busan City Hall.

Dongseo University-Operated 'Haeundaegu Child and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center' Selected as Busan's Best Center for Two Consecutive Years Busan Haeundaegu Center received the Grand Prize at the "2024 Busan City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center Workshop" and is taking a commemorative photo.

The 2023 evaluation of Children's and Social Welfare Meal Service Management Centers, conducted by the Busan City Health and Sanitation Division, was based on a combined score of operational performance (60 points) and best practices (40 points). Out of 14 centers in Busan, one top center and two excellent centers were selected as final awardees.


In this evaluation, the Haeundae-gu Center received the Grand Prize for its 'Nutrition Education Program for Improving Vegetable Aversion Using Real Vegetables.' The program developed a nutrition education curriculum using actual vegetables that children tend to avoid, and provided this education to 169 children's meal facilities in Haeundae-gu (4,927 children). They also offered four recipes for improving vegetable aversion and ran four online cooking classes, contributing to increased vegetable intake and improved eating habits among local children.


At this workshop, the Haeundae-gu Center not only presented its best practices in children's meal service but also delivered a mentoring presentation as a leading center for social welfare meal service management, sharing insights on operating such centers.


The Haeundae-gu Children's and Social Welfare Meal Service Management Center provides on-site customized support for healthy and safe meals, including hygiene and nutrition management, menu and recipe provision, consulting, and tailored dietary education. Their services target children's meal facilities with fewer than 100 children and no nutritionist, as well as senior care facilities, care centers, and facilities for people with disabilities.


Director Lee Hyunsook stated, "I am very pleased to receive the Grand Prize for two consecutive years. This achievement is the result of the unified efforts of our center's staff, and I applaud their hard work. We will continue to do our best to support meal management and improve nutritional standards for vulnerable groups in the community, from infants and young children to the elderly and people with disabilities."
