Gongju City and Geumsan County Selected for Second Round of Educational Development Special Zones by Ministry of Education

Designated as a Leading Area for Excellent Business Planning

Gongju City and Geumsan County in South Chungcheong Province have been selected as pilot areas for the second round of Educational Development Special Zones by the Ministry of Education.

According to the South Chungcheong Provincial Office of Education on the 30th, the Ministry of Education is designating Educational Development Special Zones to foster local talent and improve residential conditions. In the first round announced in February, Asan City and Seosan City were selected.

In South Chungcheong Province, six local governments applied for the second round of pilot areas, and Gongju City and Geumsan County were selected.

The pilot areas for the Educational Development Special Zones are operated as leading and management areas. Gongju City and Geumsan County were designated as leading areas in recognition of the excellence of their project plans.

Gongju City aims to realize "Digi+Cul Education Naru Gongju, where history, culture, and the future coexist," by promoting Danuri Gongju-type Neulbom, fostering future talents through AI and digital education, and nurturing resident-type Digi+Cul talents.

Geumsan County has proposed tasks such as providing seamless care, establishing a local residential ecosystem, Geumsan-type future education, and education with joyful learning, in order to realize a "Happy Education and Healing Community for All."

Gongju City and Geumsan County plan to further develop their special zone operation plans through consulting from the Educational Development Special Zone Advisory Committee.

Superintendent Kim Jicheol stated, "In an era of local extinction and demographic cliffs, innovation in public education in connection with the local community is not a choice but a necessity," adding, "We will actively support cooperation between the Office of Education, local governments, and various private sectors through the Educational Development Special Zones."
