Recently, A heard a shocking fact from her son, who became a college student this year. It was that his father was having an affair.
A's son secretly called her outside and said, "When I was in the first year of middle school, I was playing games on Dad's phone and saw a strange message. It was a naked photo of some man," adding, "It came from a secret messenger app Dad was using."
He continued, "'I miss you,' 'I want to meet you,' and other embarrassing messages were also there," and said, "Since then, I secretly opened Dad's phone and saw that the people he met changed from time to time. I took screenshots of all the screens with my phone."
A said, "My son didn't tell me because he was afraid I would divorce Dad if he did," and "But he felt so sorry every time he saw me that he finally decided he had to tell me."
She said, "Seeing my kind husband made it even harder to believe," and "I wondered hundreds of times a day whether I should pretend not to have heard what my son said."
However, A explained, "When my husband said he was going to a dinner gathering with his friends and showed up all dressed up, I had all kinds of thoughts," and "I felt I couldn't take it anymore, so I asked my son to send me the photos from the messages."
With the photos her son sent, A found out that her husband had been having transactional meetings or relationships with several men for over 10 years.
A said, "I was really shocked," and "I don't think I can live with my husband anymore," asking for help.
Attorney Jo Inseop of Shinsegye Law Firm, who read the story, explained, "Homosexuality can also be grounds for divorce. In recent cases, there have been quite a few rulings awarding damages for infidelity between same-sex partners," and added, "Continuous use of affectionate nicknames, expressions of love, and repeated 'dates' with someone other than the spouse are recognized as infidelity."
He further stated, "Even in cases of homosexuality, the amount of damages awarded is not significantly different from those in heterosexual infidelity cases," and "In this case, since the infidelity period is very long and the pain and sense of betrayal for the spouse and children are severe, about 30 million won in damages is likely to be recognized."
