Former President Barack Obama and his wife have expressed their intention to support Vice President Harris as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming U.S. presidential election this November.
On the 26th (local time), major foreign media reported that former President Obama and Michelle Obama released a short video showing them calling Vice President Harris to express their support.
In the call, former President Obama said, "Michelle and I wanted to call to say we will do everything we can to help you win the election and become president," adding, "We are proud to support you." Michelle Obama also said, "We are proud of you," and "This will be a historic moment."
Vice President Harris expressed gratitude for the Obamas' support and responded that she looks forward to the journey with them during the remaining three months until the election.
Unlike other Democratic figures who publicly supported Vice President Harris soon after President Joe Biden announced his resignation, former President Obama delayed his endorsement, sparking much speculation.
As the silence prolonged, some speculated that he might not be favorable toward Vice President Harris as the presidential candidate.
However, with this declaration of support, Vice President Harris is expected to gain more momentum in securing the Democratic presidential nomination.
