The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Oh Seung-hoon) has provided safety guidelines for the public regarding heatwaves and urged them to take care of their health.

According to Jeonnam Fire on the 26th, with the number and intensity of heatwave days expected to increase after the rainy season, 44 heat-related illness patients were transported by emergency teams from May to the 24th of this month. This is a 120% increase compared to 20 patients during the same period last year.

Analysis of heat-related illness patients showed that 22 patients, accounting for 50% of the total, were injured during outdoor work such as in fields and on roads. The main symptoms were heat exhaustion with 20 cases (45%), heatstroke with 11 cases (25%), and heat cramps with 7 cases (16%).

By time of day, the highest number of heat-related illness cases, 25 (57%), occurred between 12 PM and 3 PM, and 95% (42 patients) were concentrated between 11 AM and 5 PM.

By age group, the elderly aged 60 and above accounted for 27 patients, representing 61% of the cases.

Heat-related illnesses are acute diseases caused by heat, characterized by symptoms such as headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, fatigue, and decreased consciousness when exposed to hot environments for extended periods. Heatstroke and heat exhaustion are representative conditions.

The heat illness prevention methods recommended by Jeonnam Fire include ▲frequent checking of weather information and perceived temperature ▲regular breaks and sufficient hydration ▲working in pairs during outdoor activities ▲avoiding outdoor activities between 12 PM and 5 PM.

Chief Oh Seung-hoon stated, “Jeonnam Fire is always prepared for 24-hour emergency response to heatwave-related patients,” and urged, “Please familiarize yourself with heat illness prevention guidelines and immediately report any patients to 119.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Fire operates 139 119 Heatwave Emergency Teams equipped with ice packs, thermometers, salt tablets, and cold drinking water in ambulances at all times.
