Sunhwa Girls' Middle School in Busan utilized the education office budget to host a metaverse art exhibition that overcomes the limitations of time and space, presenting new possibilities for digital-based education.
Sunhwa Girls' Middle School was the only middle school under the Busan Nambu Office of Education to be selected as a 'Leading School for Digital-Based Educational Innovation.'
This exhibition consisted of art pieces created by all students over the semester, including character design, virtual movie posters, reinterpretations of famous paintings, and an encyclopedia of Western artists.
Art teacher Kim Yunseo explained the purpose of the exhibition, saying, "Our students, who usually live as consumers of culture and art in daily life, were invited as the artists of this exhibition so they could experience becoming producers of culture and art themselves."
In addition, by linking the end-of-semester 'Art Activity Reflection Worksheet' with the exhibition, the school aimed to enhance students' self-directed learning abilities through processes such as self-evaluation, reflection, and setting new goals.
At this art exhibition, students could have fun learning the functions of the metaverse and develop creative thinking and teamwork through various activities, such as gathering for a flash mob or proactively searching for hidden treasures placed by teachers.
All teachers at Sunhwa Girls' Middle School are actively utilizing digital edutech powered by AI in their teaching. In particular, AI courseware is being actively used in English, mathematics, and information subjects, and teacher training for nearby schools is also being conducted.
For example, during information class, formative assessments using metaverse escape room quizzes provide students with new learning experiences. These teaching and learning methods have been evaluated as effective in stimulating students' interest and motivation and contributing to improved learning outcomes.
As a leading school for digital-based educational innovation, Sunhwa Girls' Middle School has formed a professional learning community of teachers to share various teaching and learning methods and enhance expertise. In particular, the school is striving to effectively raise learning levels by providing customized content tailored to each student's individual characteristics and level, actively utilizing the strengths of artificial intelligence.
With the introduction of AI digital textbooks scheduled for the second semester of this year, the school plans to conduct training sessions for parents and allow them to experience the prototype in advance.
Sunhwa Girls' Middle School will continue to strive to ensure and improve the quality of student education through faithful basic instruction, proactive adoption of cutting-edge technologies, and active support for teachers' diverse educational initiatives.
