Dehumidifier Sales Increasing This Year
Highlighting Advantages in Design, Capacity, and Energy Efficiency
As the long rainy season continues with high humidity, sales of dehumidifiers are increasing. The dehumidifier market is dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are fiercely competing to win consumers' hearts by offering reasonable prices and various technologies compared to large corporations.
According to Cuckoo Homesys on the 26th, sales of dehumidifier lines from June to the 17th of this month increased by more than 84% compared to the same period last year. Jennifer Room's Macaron dehumidifier recorded a 140% sales growth compared to May to July 23 of the previous year, and Shinil Electronics' dehumidifier shipments from January to June increased by 135% year-on-year.
As this year's rainy season has been unusually long, the demand for dehumidifiers is rapidly increasing, and companies are focusing on promoting their unique advantages. Cuckoo Homesys' InsPure Ultra Slim dehumidifier boasts a design with a width of 22 cm, slightly longer than an A4 sheet, and a generous dehumidification capacity of 16 liters. The noise generated when using the dehumidifier is about 43 decibels (dB), comparable to a quiet library, considering the sensitivity of the elderly and pets. It includes functions such as automatic dehumidification, continuous dehumidification, and manual dehumidification to allow users to adjust the desired humidity. The automatic mode maintains an optimal indoor humidity of 45-55%, and the continuous mode allows ongoing dehumidification regardless of capacity when a drainage hose is attached.
Jennifer Room's Macaron dehumidifier automatically detects the surrounding humidity with the push of a button and adjusts the space to the optimal humidity. When the laundry drying mode is activated, it quickly dries indoor laundry, which tends to smell. It is effective not only for managing humidity in summer but also for preventing mold caused by condensation in winter, gaining popularity especially among one- to two-person households.
Shinil Electronics' large-capacity dehumidifier has an energy consumption efficiency rating of Grade 1, minimizing power consumption and reducing electricity costs even when running the dehumidifier all day. With a maximum daily dehumidification capacity of 18 liters, it can quickly control humidity during the rainy season or in high-humidity environments. The water tank capacity is also 6.5 liters, so it does not need to be emptied frequently. After dehumidification ends, an internal drying function operates to keep the device clean.
Paseco released a ‘12-liter dehumidifier’ last month that is small but powerful. It improves power efficiency by eliminating unnecessary fan operation before the compressor starts, and the noise level is only 36 dB. Therefore, it can be used anywhere in the house without disturbing sleep or causing discomfort. It also reduces electricity bills. Paseco explained that the power efficiency is lower compared to similar dehumidifiers, and even if used 24 hours a day for a month, the electricity bill is around 4,000 won.
An industry insider said, “The dehumidifier market was initially developed by SMEs, and although large corporations have entered, high-performance and diverse SME products are still popular,” adding, “Due to the longer-than-average rainy season, there are many areas with relative humidity at 100%, so dehumidifier sales are expected to continue for the time being.”
