Jeju Olle Course 6 is considered a trail where you can enjoy the core landscapes of Seogwipo in the southern part of Jeju all at once. From the starting point, Soesokkak, to Jejigi Oreum, Gudumi Port, Socheonji, Jeongbang Waterfall, and more, the scenery created by the meeting of the sea and land can be experienced, and at the Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, you can also experience the culture of Seogwipo. Course 6 is an 11 km section starting from Soesokkak, passing through Bomok Port, Gudumi Port, Geomeun-yeo Rest Area, Socheonji, Jeongbang Waterfall, Lee Jung-seop Street, and ending at the Jeju Olle Traveler Center. The estimated time required is about 3 to 4 hours.
The starting point, Soesokkak, means the end of a pool where an ox is lying down. It is a place where the sea and freshwater merge to create a spectacular view, and in the deep water where the two waters meet, a traditional boat called a Teu, which is slowly moved by pulling a rope by hand, floats.
Passing by the salt storage huts where salt was stored after boiling seawater during times when salt was scarce, and Gudumi Port, named because the nearby terrain resembles a turtle's head and tail, you arrive at Socheonji. The name was given because it looks like a miniature version of Baekdu Mountain’s Heaven Lake. On clear days with calm winds, you can have a special experience of seeing the reflection of Hallasan Mountain. It is a place where you can enjoy both Hallasan, the highest mountain in South Korea, and Baekdu Mountain, the highest mountain on the Korean Peninsula, in one location.
Next is Jeongbang Waterfall, the only coastal waterfall in Asia where water flows over land and falls directly into the sea. It is 23 meters high and 8 meters wide, and on both sides of the waterfall, there are rare volcanic rock cliffs mixed with hydrothermal breccia that surround it like a folding screen, creating a magnificent sight. On clear days, you can also enjoy a rainbow formed by the waterfall. Near Jeongbang Waterfall, there is Sojeongbang Waterfall, which is about 500 meters high. Also a coastal waterfall, it is lower in height and the water is cold. On the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, Baekjung Day, many locals visit to take a cold water bath, following the custom that "if you get splashed with cold water, you will be healthy for a year."
As you enter the city and walk along, you will find the Lee Jung-seop Art Museum. It preserves the room where Lee Jung-seop, who fled to Jeju Island during the Korean War, lived with his wife and two sons in a single room, and the museum was built next to it. During this period, Lee Jung-seop painted representative works such as "Fantasy of Seogwipo," and even after leaving, he continued to create works reflecting his memories of Jeju Island, such as "Longing Jeju Landscape." Finally, when you reach the Jeju Olle Traveler Center, today's course ends.
