Korean MANET Radios Supplied to Army
Real-Time Sharing of Soldiers' Operational Situations via Video
Domestic defense company Hunid Technologies (hereinafter Hunid) has attracted attention with its 'Korean-style MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc Network) radio' supplied to the Army. MANET is a next-generation communication system that allows commanders to share real-time video of soldiers' operational situations even in areas without communication infrastructure.
According to Hunid on the 25th, MANET was applied in the Army Tiger Boost Project, successfully implementing a hyper-connected network that links soldiers with various combat platforms such as AI servers, drones, unmanned reconnaissance vehicles, multi-legged robots, tanks, and armored vehicles as one.
The 'Army Tiger Boost Project' is an advanced technology pilot operation program led by the Army Headquarters Future Innovation Research Center's Army Tiger Office, conducted for two weeks from the 17th of last month at an urban area operation training ground. It was established to rapidly integrate advanced technologies like AI into the Army's weapons and power systems and deploy them in actual combat.
At this event, Hunid was evaluated as a soldier-centered network system that can form an independent network in real time using Ad-hoc technology and be utilized in operations. The video transmission equipment set supplied by Hunid can link tactical terminals, HD cameras, special thermal cameras, head-up displays, and commander control devices to the military-exclusive MANET wireless network. In this way, the location and movement status of soldiers and operational videos are shared in real time both day and night.
Last month, the Army Special Forces 13th Brigade conducted an operational test and evaluation of MANET around Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do. At that time, they shared real-time high-definition video information with a command post located more than 24 km away.
An industry official stated, “MANET is a model jointly developed last year by Hunid and the UK’s 'Domo Tactical Communications,'” adding, “It is equipped with an encryption system certified by our government.”
