Sejong University, 15th President Eom Jong-hwa Inaugurated... "Will Teach the Importance of Life Beyond Knowledge"

Sejong University inaugurated its 15th president, Eom Jong-hwa. The term of office is three years, lasting until July 26, 2027.

On the 25th, Sejong University held the inauguration ceremony for President Eom Jong-hwa at Aejihun Church. The event was attended by Choi Se-mo, chairman of the Dayang Foundation, members of the Dayang Foundation board, heads of affiliated institutions, and Sejong University faculty members.

In his inaugural speech, President Eom stated, "I intend to reflect on Sejong University's founding ideals of Aegi (愛智), Christianity, and the Hunmin spirit," adding, "Through the truth of science today, I will expand knowledge, achieve innovation, and contribute to human progress to elevate Sejong University to the world's top university."

He continued, "I aim to teach students not only the transmission of knowledge but also the importance of loving and serving one another," and said, "The university will strive to become a warm community that helps neighbors in need based on respect and consideration, and will operate transparently and fairly to be a trusted institution that pursues academic truth and practices honest research and education."

He further noted, "Recently, Switzerland's International Institute for Management Development (IMD) announced that Korea ranked second in the '30-50 Club' of the 'National Competitiveness Evaluation,' following the United States. This shows that Korea possesses economic development, social stability, and innovation capabilities," adding, "Like Stanford University, which led the Silicon Valley miracle, let us all move forward as a leading university that upholds the Aegi spirit, Christian spirit, and Hunmin spirit to lead Korea's G2 status together."

President Eom graduated from Daegu Neungin High School and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from Seoul National University. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from Northwestern University in the United States. Since starting his professorship at Sejong University in 2001, President Eom has held key positions including Director of External Cooperation, Dean of Academic Affairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Executive Vice President.
