Police Apply for Arrest Warrant for Driver in 'Sicheong Station Wrong-Way Driving Accident'

On the 25th, the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that they had applied for an arrest warrant for Cha (68), the driver of the vehicle involved in the wrong-way driving accident at Sicheong Station, on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (causing death) at around 5:30 PM the previous day.


The police stated, "Considering the seriousness of the crime and the investigation conducted so far, we have applied for an arrest warrant," and added, "We will announce the comprehensive investigation results in line with the timing of the transfer."


At around 9:28 PM on the 1st, Cha's Genesis G80 vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk on Taepyeong-ro in Jung-gu, Seoul, resulting in 9 pedestrians dead and 7 injured.


It was investigated that Cha's vehicle exited the underground parking lot of the Chosun Hotel and drove the wrong way on a one-way street, hitting pedestrians and two vehicles, a BMW and a Sonata.
