Kakao Revamps Portal Daum Weather Service... From Local Neighborhood to Nationwide Weather

Kakao's content CIC announced on the 25th that its portal Daum will launch a new weather service.

Daum will provide weather information through a dedicated weather page, moving beyond the previous method of offering weather info via the Daum homepage and integrated search. In the event of disasters, a separate tab will open to enhance safety information for users.

The weather page is organized into 'Neighborhood Weather', 'Nationwide', 'Videos', and 'Weather Alerts' tabs. The Neighborhood Weather tab offers detailed weather information for a specific area based on the user's location. Users can easily explore real-time, hourly, and weekly weather. It also shows nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to accurately verify actual weather conditions.

Additionally, various lifestyle indices and air quality information closely related to daily life are provided for convenience. Weather information for activities such as walking, running, hiking, cycling, and golf, as well as daily tasks like driving, laundry drying, and car washing, and health concerns like colds, arthritis, and asthma are shown with indicators such as 'Good', 'Moderate', and 'Poor'. Furthermore, air quality data including fine dust, yellow dust, and ozone, as well as sunrise/sunset, moonrise/moonset information, and weather news are offered.

The Nationwide tab allows users to view nationwide weather, sea weather, and air quality information at a glance through maps. The Videos tab provides real-time videos of infrared imagery, radar imagery, air flow, and fine dust, enabling intuitive understanding of weather patterns. Users can also explore a variety of information through weather-related short-form video content. The Weather Alerts tab lets users check current issued and active weather warnings.

When various weather advisories such as heavy rain, heatwaves, or typhoons are in effect, related tabs will be opened. To help users take special caution and prepare for disasters, regional alerts and disaster text message statuses are provided quickly and accurately, along with guidance on disaster response actions.

Next month, Daum plans to introduce features such as MY, which allows users to set preferred locations to check weather and receive app notifications, themed weather showing weather at golf courses, baseball stadiums, theme parks, and more, as well as weather services closely connected to daily life like pet walking weather.

Choi Dae-hoon, leader of Kakao Vertical Planning, said, "In response to rapid climate changes, we have newly launched the weather page to provide users with fast, accurate, and convenient weather information. We plan to offer not only real-time weather conditions and forecasts but also weather information closer to everyday life so that users can enjoy a comfortable and safe daily routine."

Meanwhile, Kakao also provides real-time risk-related information through major services such as KakaoTalk Open Chat and KakaoMap to help users stay safe from various weather damages. KakaoTalk Open Chat operates the 'Real-time Nationwide Weather Situation' Open Chat Lite. KakaoMap guides users to detour routes to prevent entry into roads under control and helps users check real-time conditions on major roads nationwide through its CCTV feature.
