Satisfaction with Apple's latest iPhone series has sharply declined compared to its predecessor, resulting in the smallest gap with Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S series in the past five years. In terms of the latest technology features, the Galaxy S24 series equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) scored higher in satisfaction than the iPhone 15 series, which showed no significant improvement over its predecessor.

According to a mobile communication planning survey by Consumer Insight, a specialized mobile communication research institute, the overall satisfaction score for the Galaxy S24 series was 705 out of 1000 points, just 1 point behind the iPhone 15 series, which scored 706 points. The survey was conducted from April 11 to May 3, 2024, and asked 6,118 people who purchased a mobile phone within the last six months about their satisfaction with their current phone, focusing on the latest phones from Samsung and Apple.

Overall satisfaction was calculated by converting responses on a 5-point scale (1 point for poor to 5 points for excellent) across evaluation categories into a score out of 1000 points. The evaluation categories included △size, weight, and grip △shape and design △screen composition and menu user interface (UI) design △image quality and resolution △touch performance △multimedia functions and performance △app operation and processing speed and stability △usability △latest technology and feature adoption △durability and sturdiness, totaling 10 categories.

The gap between the iPhone series and Galaxy S series was the smallest in the past five years. The Galaxy S20 series released in 2020 scored 714 points, 4 points behind the iPhone 11 series released in 2019. Later, the Galaxy S22 series released in 2022 scored 639 points, which was 95 points lower than the iPhone 13 series released in 2021, which scored 734 points. Even just before, the Galaxy S23 series scored 716 points, 33 points lower than the iPhone 14 series, which scored 749 points.

Although satisfaction declined for both products, this result is interpreted as due to the iPhone series showing no improvements in functions and design compared to its predecessor. The iPhone saw a sharp drop in satisfaction in the latest technology and features (-8 points) and design (-5 points) categories. For the Galaxy S series, satisfaction in the latest technology and features, durability and sturdiness, and size, weight, and grip categories remained the same as the previous model, but the other seven categories dropped by 1 to 2 points each.

In durability and sturdiness, the Galaxy S24 series (71 points) also had a 4-point advantage over the iPhone 15 series (67 points). However, in design, it scored 3 points lower than the iPhone 15 series.

Among the AI features of the Galaxy S24 series, the feature consumers most wanted to try was 'real-time call translation (74%)', followed by 'enhanced photo editing (37%)', 'recording assist (34%)', 'circle to search (32%)', and 'chat assist (32%)'.
