Seeking Busan's Pride... 'Busan Vibe' Campaign Launched

This Year’s Gatsaenglympic to Be Held: Leading Community Activities, Discovering Busan Pride Communities, and Collecting Ideas

Any Community Active in Busan Can Participate via the Campaign Website Until August 26

Busan City will continue its 'BUSAN VIBE' campaign this year, which aims to discover and share the city's hidden sources of pride.

Seeking Busan's Pride... 'Busan Vibe' Campaign Launched 2024 Godsaenglympics Poster.

This campaign is a long-term project that selects a theme every year?such as people, places, food, or culture of Busan?to discover, document, and share elements that can foster pride and confidence in the city of Busan.

The city launched this campaign in 2022, the first of its kind nationwide, with the goal of making Busan a city people would want to live in even if they were born again. This year marks its third edition.

Notably, in 2022 the campaign received the Grand Prize at the Korea Public PR Awards and won both a Gold and Bronze medal in two categories at the 11th Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, gaining recognition both domestically and internationally for its promotional impact.

This year's campaign, under the theme 'Busan People Gathered by 000', will feature the '2024 Gatsaenglympic'. Through the Gatsaenglympic, the city will discover communities that lead collective activities and have become sources of pride for Busan.

The '2024 Gatsaenglympic' will select the most pride-worthy communities in Busan through preliminary and final rounds, similar to Olympic events, awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Communities will be recruited in two categories: ▲Small communities (5-20 people) ▲Large communities (over 20 people). There will also be a ▲Hidden Champion category to discover new community ideas that could become a source of pride for Busan.

Anyone who is a member of a community active in Busan can participate. Applications can be submitted on the BUSAN VIBE campaign website until August 26, along with a photo or video introducing the community.

The 'Hidden Champion' category is open to any Busan citizen with a community activity plan or an innovative idea.

Once the recruitment of participating communities (participants) is complete, a total of seven teams (individuals) will be selected to advance to the finals in early September through evaluations by experts and a citizen judging panel during the preliminary round.

Three small communities, three large communities, and one hidden champion will be selected. Finalists will receive hotel meal vouchers, online gift certificates for community operations, media promotion, and limited-edition plaques. In particular, the stories of these communities will be included in the upcoming BUSAN VIBE e-book.

Even if a community does not advance to the finals, 20 participants will be randomly selected to receive mobile gift certificates worth up to 50,000 won, and their stories will also be included in the e-book for promotional opportunities.

The final round will be judged based on two equally weighted criteria: a citizen support vote conducted through videos of the finalists' activities and challenges posted on social networking services, and a presentation (PT) evaluation. Gold, silver, and bronze medalists will be selected through this process.

To promote the BUSAN VIBE campaign in advance, the city has been running a 'Subscribe to Campaign News' event since the 8th, which has already garnered enthusiastic participation from over 100 citizens.

With the announcement of this year's 2024 Gatsaenglympic theme, 'Community', and its promotion through social networking services, the campaign is receiving attention and positive responses from a wide range of age groups, from people in their 20s to their 60s.

Park Kwangmyung, spokesperson for the city, said, "During the 8th popularly elected administration, Busan City has been making great efforts to restore communities through policies such as the 15-minute city initiative. This campaign is a meaningful opportunity for Busan citizens, who have affection and pride for their city, to document and share their stories of living in this city through community activities. We ask for the interest and participation of many citizens."
