Charlie misses cut with 22-over par in two days, tears
John Junior advances to US Amateur Championship main round
The fortunes of two golfer dads diverged. The 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods cried, while the 'maverick' John Daly (both from the United States) smiled.

Woods' son Charlie packed up after just two days at the US Junior Amateur Championship despite his father's on-site support. On the 23rd (local time), Charlie shot 80 strokes, 10 over par, in the second round of the tournament held at Oakland Hills Country Club South Course (par 70) in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. With a two-day total of 162 strokes, 22 over par, he missed the cut. This score was far below the cut line of 144 strokes, 4 over par. The US Junior Golf Championship is the tournament where Woods achieved the unprecedented feat of winning three consecutive titles. Woods attracted attention by rushing to Detroit to cheer for his son immediately after finishing The Open.
Daly's son John Jr. earned a spot in the US Amateur Championship, the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the United States, scheduled for next month. He secured his place in the main event after a playoff in the final qualifier held at Brook Hollow Golf Club (par 70) in Dallas, Texas. John Jr. shot 68, 2 under par, and survived the playoff among five players competing for four tickets. He will be able to participate in the US Amateur Championship held at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, starting August 13.
Hazeltine Golf Club is where Daly won his first career victory at a major tournament, the 1991 PGA Championship. He was an alternate who entered at the last minute, won the tournament, and became a star. The winner of the US Amateur Championship is granted entry to major tournaments such as the Masters and the US Open. John Jr. won the family golf competition PNC Championship in 2021 alongside his father, beating the Woods family. Recently, John Jr. has been competing in PGA Korn Ferry (second-tier) Tour events, aiming to advance to the PGA Tour.
