"Will Listen More and Explain More to Be Loved"

Han Dong-hoon, the newly appointed leader of the People Power Party, emphasized on the 23rd in his acceptance speech the need to reflect public sentiment through a healthy and productive party-government relationship. He also appealed that he would take the lead with an attitude of listening and persuasion for the necessary changes within the party to win the hearts of the people.

At the party convention held at KINTEX in Goyang that day, Leader Han said, "The major opposition party is running rampant to an unprecedented degree, but public sentiment is not unilaterally restraining that rampage. This is because we are still being evaluated as responding insufficiently to the people's hearts and not practicing politics that meets the people's expectations." He added, "Let us accurately grasp public sentiment through a healthy and productive party-government relationship and rational discussions, and respond without missing the timing. Let us ride the wave of public sentiment."

Leader Han also emphasized competence by citing the achievements of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration. He said, "Our Yoon Seok-yeol government, which you the people and party members have built together, is already competent," and added, "In that regard, we can take pride." He continued, "(The Yoon administration) restored the collapsed Korea-US value alliance and developed it into a Korea-US nuclear alliance. It rebuilt the collapsed nuclear power industry and secured a multi-trillion won contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic," emphasizing, "Even just one of these achievements will make our Yoon government remembered in history." Leader Han further explained the administration's achievements by mentioning responses to illegal strikes such as those by the Cargo Solidarity Union and measures against economic crimes affecting ordinary citizens.

Leader Han said, "The reason the people do not give us more support despite these great achievements is that we have listened less, explained less, and persuaded less," and added, "I will take the lead with the new leadership to listen more, explain more, and persuade more. Therefore, we will receive the love of the people." He emphasized, "Based on listening and persuasion, we will lead future issues of the Republic of Korea," and stated, "We will present and lead tasks that can drive Korea’s upward growth trajectory in industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, nuclear power, energy, and defense industries."

Regarding party reform, Leader Han said, "I will implement the grassroots political system reconstruction mentioned during my candidacy, strengthen the policy functions of the Yeouido Institute, expand the political base through flexible operations, and carry out bold political reforms by abolishing privileges," adding, "Ultimately, this will be the path for our People Power Party to expand toward centrists, the metropolitan area, and youth."

Leader Han declared his resolute will, saying, "As long as I am the party leader, I will never put you ahead of the storm," and "Together with the newly elected leadership, I will become the storm myself and lead you." He also added, "Today, we break through the storm and move toward the future. I am happy to be with you, party members, on the first day of going toward the future," and concluded, "Let us begin the change we desire, together."
