Seongdong-gu to Conduct 'Visiting Safety Experience Education' in the Second Half of the Year

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will conduct the 2024 second half "Visiting Safety Experience Education" targeting safety-vulnerable groups such as elementary school students, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The district will provide various on-site experiential education programs at schools, welfare centers, and apartment complexes to help residents respond to everyday crisis situations.

The Visiting Safety Experience Education consists of various programs including fire emergency response guidelines, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) usage, fire extinguisher usage, fire evacuation maze experience, earthquake simulation, and traffic safety experience. The education is conducted after prior demand surveys and coordinated according to the number of participants and the size of the venue. Professional instructors from Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center, Seoul’s first regional comprehensive safety experience center opened in 2015, visit the sites directly to conduct the training.

In the first half of the year, 14 visits were made to elementary schools, welfare centers, community service centers, and apartment complexes, educating a total of about 1,400 people. In the second half, the number of visits will be expanded to about 20 sessions.

Besides the Visiting Safety Experience Education, Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center offers disaster safety education where participants can directly experience and learn through virtual simulations of various disaster situations such as earthquakes, ship escape, fire, CPR, emergency escape device usage, and elevators. Any Seongdong-gu resident can apply, and detailed information is available on the Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center website or by calling the Safety Management Division of Seongdong-gu Office.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "Through the Visiting Safety Experience Education, I hope that safety-vulnerable groups around us can receive safety education without physical or spatial constraints," and added, "We will continue to provide high-quality safety education to enhance residents’ disaster response capabilities and create a safe smart city Seongdong that is secure 365 days a year."
