"Jiptokki Returns" Trump vs Harris, '2%p' Nail-Bitingly Close

Democratic Party 'Jiptokki' Rally... Narrowing Gap from 6%p

Following U.S. President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election, Democratic supporters have been rallying behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Changes are also being detected in the previously dominant position of former President Donald Trump.

According to Morning Consult, a U.S. polling organization, a survey conducted on 4,001 voters the day after President Biden announced his withdrawal from the race showed Vice President Harris trailing former President Trump by a narrow margin, with Harris at 45% support and Trump at 47%.

Before President Biden's withdrawal announcement, polls showed a 6 percentage point gap between former President Trump and Vice President Harris in a head-to-head matchup.

This is interpreted as a result of Democratic "base voters" returning after Biden's withdrawal announcement. Morning Consult reported that 27% of Democratic voters said Biden's decision to withdraw motivated them to vote, showing more active participation in the election than Republican voters (24%).

Among Democratic voters surveyed, 65% expressed a desire for Vice President Harris to become the Democratic presidential candidate. This figure is more than double the support recorded in a poll conducted after the presidential TV debate at the end of last month when the same question was asked.

President Biden's decision not to seek re-election also influenced Republican voters. Twenty-seven percent of Republican voters responded that the Republican presidential candidate should be replaced.

However, some polls indicate that Vice President Harris's support has not changed significantly even after Biden's withdrawal.

According to a survey conducted by On Point Politics on the 21st with 801 voters, former President Trump’s support stood at 51%, while Vice President Harris’s support was at 43%. In a similar survey by the same polling organization on the 17th, Trump’s support was 52% and Harris’s was 44%.
