IODS is the largest security and defense international exhibition in the Oceania region, held biennially since 2018. This year, key military authorities and defense industry stakeholders from global major security alliances AUKUS and QUAD member countries, including the Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, the Commander of the U.S. Naval Operations, and the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, will participate.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to introduce optimal customized solutions for strengthening Australia’s naval power and advancing its shipbuilding industry, aligned with the Australian government’s "Confirmed Construction Plan for Australian Navy Surface Ships" announced in February, which includes the acquisition plan for frigates. The company will focus on promoting the Ulsan-class frigate series (Ulsan-class Batch-I, II, III), which has already proven its combat capabilities, along with its world-leading shipbuilding expertise.

The Australian government intends to introduce new frigates to replace the currently operated Anzac-class frigates. Additionally, Australia is expected to select companies equipped with comprehensive capabilities to enhance the Henderson shipyard in Western Australia and perform local construction.

At this exhibition, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will also discuss mutual cooperation and support measures with local Australian shipbuilding companies for the development of the Australian shipbuilding industry.

Joo Won-ho, Head of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Special Ship Business, stated, "The Ulsan-class frigate, which embodies Korea’s defense capabilities, is the world’s best combat ship capable of supporting Australia’s Indo-Pacific maritime strategy," adding, "We are fully prepared to contribute to the development of the Australian shipbuilding industry with our world No. 1 shipbuilding technology."
