Gangwon and Chungnam Mountain Landslide Crisis Alert 'Warning' Issued Additionaly

The Korea Forest Service announced on the 23rd at 1 p.m. that it has raised the landslide warning level to ‘Alert’ for the Gangwon and Chungnam regions.

As of the same time, the Alert level was issued for Gangwon, Chungnam, as well as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that due to the influence of the monsoon front, rainfall of around 30mm to 80mm (with a maximum daily accumulation of 115mm) is expected mainly in the metropolitan area and the inland mountainous areas of Gangwon until the morning of the 24th.

The Korea Forest Service held a situation assessment meeting and comprehensively evaluated regional rainfall forecasts and preceding rainfall amounts, leading to the additional upgrade of the landslide warning to the ‘Alert’ level for the Gangwon and Chungnam regions.

Meanwhile, the landslide warning remains at the ‘Caution’ level in Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, Sejong, Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeju regions.

The warning system is issued in four levels according to the risk of landslides: ‘Interest’, ‘Caution’, ‘Alert’, and ‘Severe’.

Lee Jong-su, Disaster Control Officer at the Korea Forest Service, said, “We have raised the landslide warning to ‘Alert’ for the Gangwon and Chungnam regions. Residents in these areas are urged to pay close attention to emergency disaster messages and village broadcasts, and to evacuate promptly in case of emergencies.”
