The Chungnam Office of Education recently announced that it has applied for three projects in Gyeryong and Buyeo-gun for the second round of the school complex facility public offering project.

In Gyeryong, there are plans to install a survival swimming pool, an underground public parking lot, and a GX (group exercise) room at Eomsa Elementary School.

In Buyeo-gun, new cultural spaces, an indoor swimming pool, and a multipurpose gymnasium will be created at the newly constructed Buyeo Library and Buyeo Bandabi National Sports Center.

The Ministry of Education is supporting the school complex facility project, which includes swimming pools, gymnasiums, and AI-based digital infrastructure rooms that can be used by both students and local residents. By 2027, the ministry plans to select about 200 schools with an investment of 1.8 trillion won.

Depending on the financial independence ratio of local governments, 20-30% of the total project cost is provided as differential support. In areas with declining populations and locations where swimming pools are installed, 50% of the total project cost is supported regardless of financial independence.

In the case of Gyeryong, 50% of the project cost can be supported due to the installation of a swimming pool, and for Buyeo-gun, as it is a depopulated area, 50% of the project cost is also supported.

The final selection results for the second round of the public offering project will be announced in August, and if selected, preliminary planning and detailed design will be carried out this year, with completion scheduled for 2026-2028.

Chungnam aims to install at least one facility in every city and county in the province by 2027 and is actively participating in the project competition.

Since last year, six areas?Cheonan, Hongseong, Seosan, Boryeong, Seocheon, and Gongju?have been selected and are undergoing preliminary feasibility assessments and public architecture reviews.

Hwang Inmyeong, Director of Administration, said, "Through the school complex facility project, we expect to expand facilities lacking in schools and local communities, provide various experiential opportunities, and create a venue for exchange connecting schools and the local community."
