Fire at Motras Ulsan Plant... Production Disruption of Some Hyundai Car Models

Fire Occurs at Parts Supplier Bokjidong in Early Morning of the 23rd

A fire broke out at a Hyundai Motor Company partner factory, causing disruptions in the production of some Hyundai vehicle models.

At around 3:58 a.m. on the 23rd, a fire occurred in the welfare building inside Motras Plant 1, a module parts company of Hyundai Motor Group located in Buk-gu, Ulsan.

As smoke spread, one security guard was injured, and the fire department arrived and extinguished the flames after about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

As a result, the partner company's production line is difficult to operate, and due to the suspension of parts module supply, some production lines at Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant have also stopped operating.

Since around 7 a.m. that day, most lines at Hyundai's finished car plants have been affected. Except for Plant 3, which mainly produces the Avante and Kona, Plant 1 producing the Ioniq 5, Plant 2 producing Genesis sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and Santa Fe, Plant 4 Line 1 producing the Palisade, and Plant 5 producing Genesis sedans are reported to be affected in their operations.

Motras is a subsidiary of Hyundai Mobis that produces parts modules used in finished vehicles, such as cockpits (driver's seats) and chassis. Although a Hyundai Mobis subsidiary, it directly supplies key modules to finished car manufacturers Hyundai Motor and Kia. To reduce parts inventory, module production is linked in real-time to finished car demand for supply. Therefore, if Motras's production line stops, finished car manufacturers Hyundai Motor and Kia are directly impacted.
