Future Convergence Medical Science Collaborative Research Experience Program

Southeast Radiation Oncology Center (Director: Lee Changhun) is recruiting participants for its Summer Sub-Internship Program, which will be held for two weeks starting August 12. Applications are open until August 2.

The Sub-Internship is a program where prospective doctors and scientists learn about the latest medical fields together, experience research sites, and collaborate as a team on joint research projects.

Since 2023, the center has been recruiting and training sub-internship participants during summer and winter breaks. Eligible applicants include medical students, graduate medical school students, and students from science and technology-focused universities. Participants will engage in clinical practice and research experiments for two weeks, from August 12 to 23, and receive education that integrates medical science.

The main programs for this year's summer sub-internship in the clinical field include observing outpatient rounds, robotic surgeries, participation in case discussions by disease, and more.

In the research field, specialized programs will be offered, such as research on radiolabeling and synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, the use of dedifferentiated adipose cells as advanced regenerative medicine materials, evaluation techniques for radiation exposure using electron paramagnetic resonance, development of tumor organoid models using gene editing tools, creation of gene-edited stem cell lines, development of tumor organoid models, and development of electron accelerators for radiation therapy, as well as laboratory tours and hands-on exploration.

Lee Changhun, Director of Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, stated, "Students who participate in the sub-internship are often surprised by the advanced state of medical science in Korea and say that the well-organized and diverse program is a great help in planning their careers. This year as well, we will make the most of the center’s strengths as a government-funded research institution under the Ministry of Science and ICT, so that participants can directly experience the synergy of integrated medical science research and realize a future where prospective doctors and scientists grow together."

Students wishing to participate in the 2024 Summer Sub-Internship should download and submit the application form from the Southeast Radiation Oncology Center website by August 2. Successful applicants will receive free meals, guest house accommodation (if applicable), a certificate of completion, souvenirs, and a lab coat during the two-week program.
