Delivering Drugs at 18 Locations While Roaming Residential Areas
A man in his 20s carrying drugs in a backpack was caught by the police in residential areas around Banpo-dong and Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul.
The Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced on the 23rd that they had arrested a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act for using the so-called 'drug throwing' method.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of walking around 18 locations in the residential areas of Banpo-dong and Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, at around 4:47 a.m. on the 20th, delivering small plastic bags containing methamphetamine and taking photos of them.
The police received a report from an on-duty officer monitoring crime-prone areas in Banpo-dong that "an unidentified person wearing a backpack appears to be going around houses taking photos," and immediately dispatched officers to the scene, where they apprehended the suspect.
When Mr. A was walking out of a villa in Banpo-dong, he tried to flee by jumping over a nearby fence and sprinting when the police stopped him for identification. Four officers chased him for about 300 meters before catching him as he became exhausted.
The police recovered 21 plastic bags containing approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine from Mr. A's backpack, and based on photos found on his phone, they also retrieved all the remaining bags hidden at 18 locations around Banpo-dong and Yangjae-dong.
A police official stated, "We are investigating the exact details of the crime, including who the drug buyers are," and added, "We will continue to do our best to prevent drug-related crimes."
