Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 22nd that the "1st Seodaemun-gu Underground Safety Committee" was recently launched to prevent ground subsidence and sinkholes in the district and to systematically manage underground safety. This is based on the "Ordinance on Underground Safety Management of Seodaemun-gu, Seoul," enacted in May this year.


The committee consists of 8 external experts in the fields of soil and geology (2), safety (1), water and sewage (1), civil engineering structures (1), architectural structures (1), civil engineering construction (1), and architectural construction (1), along with 10 members including the Director of the Safety and Construction Bureau of the district office (chairperson) and the head of the Road Division.


They perform deliberation tasks on ▲establishment and modification of the Seodaemun-gu underground safety management plan ▲designation and cancellation of priority management targets ▲improvement of systems related to underground safety management ▲and matters deemed necessary by the district mayor for underground safety management.


The underground safety management plan includes matters such as inspection of underground facilities, designation and cancellation and safety management of priority management facilities and areas for ground subsidence, and mutual cooperation and measures among related agencies regarding underground safety.


Mayor Lee Seongheon said, "The 1st Seodaemun-gu Underground Safety Committee, composed of external experts in related fields and public officials, will play a role in providing residents with a safe living environment."
