Naju City in Jeollanam-do held the ‘2024 Municipal Policy Issues Meeting’ with the Democratic Party’s Naju-Hwasun Regional Committee on the 22nd at the city hall’s main conference room.
According to the city, about 60 people attended the policy meeting, including Mayor Yoon Byung-tae, National Assembly Administrative Safety Committee Chairperson and Congressman Shin Jeong-hoon, City Council Chairperson Lee Jae-nam, Democratic Party-affiliated provincial and city council members, regional committee officials, aides, Deputy Mayor Ahn Sang-hyun, and heads of departments and divisions.

The meeting proceeded with reports on major achievements over the past two years, proposals for 2025 national treasury support and special grants, legislative amendment suggestions, reports on key pending projects, Q&A sessions, and free discussions.
The city proposed nine projects worth 25.2 billion KRW in areas such as new energy industries and urban residential environment improvements as national treasury-supported projects for next year.
Major projects include the ‘Establishment of a Future Energy Semiconductor Industry Support Platform,’ ‘Construction of Bitgaram Sprout Playground,’ ‘Development and Demonstration of Evaluation Technology for 70kV-class New Transmission Power Equipment Specialized in Distributed Energy,’ and ‘Improvement of National Heritage Landscapes.’
Additionally, the city requested special grant support for the ‘Reconstruction (Repair and Reinforcement) of Yeongsan Bridge’ and the ‘Construction of a Bicycle Hub Center.’
For the second half of the 8th mayoral term’s core municipal issues, active cooperation was requested for projects such as the ‘Attraction of Artificial Sun Research Facilities,’ ‘Inclusion of Ultra-High-Power Laser Research Facilities in the National Plan,’ and ‘Construction of the National Energy Specialized Science Museum.’
The city also shared information on major upcoming events scheduled for the second half of this year, including the ‘Naju Global Energy Forum 2024,’ ‘2024 Naju Yeongsan River Festival,’ and the ‘2024 National Naju Marathon.’
Congressman Shin Jeong-hoon said, “I appreciate Mayor Yoon Byung-tae and the public officials for their remarkable achievements as we reach the midpoint of the 8th mayoral term. I hope the party and government will institutionalize their relationship by forming a working-level consultative body to practically cooperate on policies that improve citizens’ quality of life and satisfaction, as well as overcome the era of local extinction.”
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae of Naju stated, “Naju has the potential and development possibilities to overcome the challenges of the local extinction era. Based on the achievements of the past two years, let us continue to cooperate between the party and government to create a new Yeongsan River era and achieve changes and development in Naju that citizens can feel.”
