At the Department Heads Meeting: "If a Promise Was Made to the People During the Election, It Must Be Kept"
Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum has begun to pressure President Yoon Suk-yeol regarding the repeated failures to fulfill Yoon's campaign pledges for the Chungnam region.
At a directors' meeting held on the 22nd, Governor Kim stated, "If the president made promises to the people through campaign pledges during the election, I believe they must be kept," adding, "For those that cannot be fulfilled, there needs to be a process of clearly explaining the reasons and seeking understanding."
He continued, "We are strongly demanding these matters from the central government, and I myself will disclose the progress of the pledges at the end of this year," emphasizing, "Since the pledges made during the election are promises to the residents, we will do our best to keep them, but if there are situations where they cannot be kept, we will honestly explain our position and ask for understanding."
During the last presidential election, President Yoon pledged to establish a national defense cluster, attract a branch of the National Police Hospital to Asan, and set up the National Dental Research Institute in Cheonan as part of his Chungnam region promises.
He also proposed relocating the Korea Military Academy to Nonsan, Chungnam, where the Army Training Center and the Agency for Defense Development are located, to create a synergy effect, but this was canceled due to opposition from the Ministry of National Defense and the Army.
The National Police Hospital, which was to be attracted to Asan, also led to wasteful competition among 19 cities and counties as the National Police Agency conducted an open bidding process targeting local governments nationwide. Similarly, the National Dental Research Institute is causing regional conflict as the government has not specified its location, leading to competition with other regions.
