Three-Level Change in Heatwave Intensity... Heightened Worker Awareness
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) has distributed heat illness prevention stickers, which serve as break reminders, to protect the safety of outdoor workers at construction sites.
According to heat illness statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, from May 20 to July 15 this year, there were 577 cases of heat-related illnesses nationwide and 10 cases in the Busan area.
Given the nature of construction sites with frequent outdoor work, BMC provided the break reminder stickers on a trial basis at construction sites under its jurisdiction to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers.
When the break reminder sticker is attached to a safety helmet, the color changes in three stages according to the surface temperature of the helmet: ▲Caution (yellow) ▲Warning (orange) ▲Severe (red).
This allows workers to intuitively recognize changes in external temperature and proactively prevent the risk of heat-related illnesses.
BMC plans to reflect the results of a satisfaction survey of workers at the end of this summer in its safety equipment support plan for next year.
Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, said, "We hope that these heat illness prevention items will greatly help protect the health and safety of our workers," adding, "BMC will do its best to strengthen monitoring activities to prevent heat-related illnesses at worksites and to implement protective measures for workers."
Every year, Busan Metropolitan Corporation distributes various safety items such as arm sleeves, neck scarves, and neck warmers to prevent seasonal illnesses like heat and cold-related diseases among outdoor workers, thereby creating a safer working environment.
