Mun Hyojeong of Dong-Eui Science University Wins Grand Prize in 'Second Act of Life: Dreams and Hopes' Essay Contest

Empathy and Praise for Adult Learners' New Challenges

Moon Hyojeong, a student from the Department of Health Convergence Welfare (Healthcare Major, Social Welfare Convergence Track) at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo), recently received the Grand Prize at the 'My College Life Essay' contest hosted by the Korea Council for Teaching and Learning in Junior Colleges (KCTL).

The contest, held on the 18th, was co-hosted by the Korea Council for Teaching and Learning in Junior Colleges (KCTL) and the Council for College Innovation Support Projects (ICK), with the aim of helping students adapt to college life and encouraging positive change.


Out of 402 participants from 114 colleges nationwide, Moon Hyojeong received the Grand Prize for her essay titled 'My Four Seasons of College Life Achieving My Dream at 50.' The essay details her journey of entering college at the age of 50, realizing her hopes and dreams for a second act in life, and the process of connecting learning to employment.


She drew particular attention as the only adult learner among the top awardees.


Moon Hyojeong shared her thoughts on winning the award, saying, "The great interest and encouragement for adult learners from President Kim Youngdo and all the faculty and staff at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology gave me strength. The carefully selected field-oriented extracurricular programs provided by my academic advisor, the Center for Teaching and Learning Development, and the Adult Learner Support Center greatly helped me improve my practical skills, self-esteem, and employment prospects."
