The Seoul Metropolitan Government is creating opportunities for middle-aged and older adults to work and connecting companies with capable veteran talent. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon emphasized, "With low birth rates and aging population causing a gap in young workforce, the importance of jobs for middle-aged and older adults to fill this gap is increasing," adding, "Employment support for the middle-aged and older is not just an individual job issue but a growth engine for companies and an investment for the future."
On the 22nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the '2024 Seoul Middle-aged and Older Job Fair' at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in collaboration with the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation and the Credit Card Social Contribution Foundation.
Held for the second time following last year, this fair aims to socially spread the hiring atmosphere for middle-aged and older adults and provide practical job information and employment opportunities to job seekers. This year, about 3,000 middle-aged and older job seekers and around 70 companies seeking to hire middle-aged and older workers will participate. The first fair held in June last year saw 2,235 participants and 61 companies.
At the recruitment booths, companies hiring middle-aged and older workers from various fields such as distribution, logistics, transportation, medical and healthcare, office work, manufacturing and technology, sales and service, including Sesco, Hyundai Home Shopping, M?decins Sans Fronti?res, Jaeneung Education, KB Life Partners, and C&COM, will participate. These companies with plans to hire middle-aged and older workers will provide related information to job seekers and conduct consultations and on-site hiring between job seekers and company HR representatives.
Employment specialist consultants will also be present to provide resume and certification consulting, as well as employment counseling. Additionally, the employment support pavilion will operate booths where participants can experience jobs such as emoticon artist and generative AI (ChatGPT) prompt creation, along with interactive programs like resume photo shoots and MBTI-based career aptitude tests.
At the opening ceremony, awards will be presented to contributors who have helped spread the culture of hiring middle-aged and older adults and to companies, along with presentations of outstanding reemployment cases. Various figures, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Kim Won-tae, Chair of the Seoul City Council’s Administrative and Autonomy Committee, will attend to cheer on the vigorous steps of Seoul’s middle-aged and older adults returning to work. Mayor Oh said, "We will continue to actively expand hiring opportunities linked to private sector jobs, provide education for successful reemployment, and broadly implement retirement life support projects that help middle-aged and older adults plan their futures, so that those preparing to return to work can find new opportunities and enjoy a happy life."
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to continue supporting employment for the 40s and 50s generation through ongoing company-specific middle-aged and older recruitment briefings and other support projects even after the fair. It will also support active work and activities of the middle-aged and older generation by providing various vocational education, training, and job opportunities.
