Public Support Declared for Trump Assassination Attempt
Trump "Abolish Electric Vehicle Mandate on First Day of Inauguration"
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, denied media reports that he plans to donate $45 million (approximately 62.3 billion KRW) monthly to former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
On the 18th (local time), Musk stated on X (formerly Twitter), "I have not promised anything to anyone," and said he does not plan to donate a large sum of money to former President Trump.
He explained, "I created a political action committee (PAC) focused on supporting candidates who prefer meritocracy and individual freedom, but so far, the donations have been much lower than that."
Earlier, the U.S. Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing sources, that Musk planned to donate $45 million monthly to a super PAC supporting former President Trump's campaign. At the time, WSJ described Musk's donation amount as an unusually large sum.
WSJ also reported that Musk would donate to America PAC, which is backed by Jo Lonsdale, co-founder of software company Palantir Technologies, and Joe Craft, CEO of major coal company Alliance Resource Partners.
Musk denied the donation plan three days after the WSJ report, seemingly coinciding with former President Trump's Republican presidential candidate acceptance speech. During the speech, Trump announced, "I will repeal the electric vehicle mandate on my first day in office," which caused Tesla's stock price to plunge more than 4% that day.
Regarding this, Republican strategist Michael Murphy, CEO of EV Politics Project, said, "Trump's statement is a betrayal to Musk, who publicly supports Trump and was about to provide large political funds."
Meanwhile, Musk stated via X in March that he would not donate political funds in this year's presidential election. However, he rapidly grew closer to former President Trump afterward and publicly declared support immediately after an assassination attempt on Trump on the 13th.
