Pohang Cultural Foundation to Host Pansori Play 'Jongikkotbat-Duhalmangbonpuri' Pansori Play "Paper Flower Field Duhalmang Bonpuri" Completed with Donghaean Byeolsingut Jihwa.

"Paper Flower Field: Duhalmang Bonpuri" is a pansori drama based on the Jeju shamanic myth "Saengbulhalmang Bonpuri." The story begins with the protagonist "Dongi" trying to conceive a child but not knowing how to give birth, when the life deity "Myeongi" comes to help. The narrative continues as the Jade Emperor proposes a flower-blooming contest, allowing the audience to reflect on the preciousness of life and its profound meaning.

For this performance, the stage's paper flower (jihwa) production is directed by Jeong Yeonrak, a jihwa artist and Donghaean Byeolsingut transmission educator. The pansori actor is Park Inhye, and the music composition and arrangement are by Choi Inhwan, demonstrating the limitless potential for depth and breadth in K-music.

In addition, the performance will feature a blend of Korean traditional music chorus, bass, piano, guitar, and janggu, with arrangements that highlight jazz characteristics within traditional sounds. To maximize the unique sentiment and mythical fantasy of Jeju (island), Jeju folk songs and shamanic chants will also be presented.

This performance premiered last year at the National Theater's "Yeowoorak Festival" and ranked second among "Asteroid's Best Performances of the Year."
